Venture Capital Fund Manager — National Security & Defense Technology
Outer Range VC is seeking a Venture Capital Fund Manager with direct, prior experience leading and managing venture capital funds. Candidates must have actual VC fund management experience, including raising LP capital, managing fund operations, overseeing a portfolio of companies, reporting to LPs, and driving day-to-day fund strategy.
This is not an investment analyst, advisor, operator, or business development role. Qualified candidates should have recently served in a senior fund management role at a venture capital firm or comparable private investment fund. You should have recent investment experience and your portfolio development should be within the last 5 years.

Role Description
The Venture Capital Fund Manager will oversee fund strategy, fund operations, portfolio management, investor relations, and fundraising support in a full-time, remote role.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading day-to-day management of the venture fund.
- Managing an active portfolio of companies and monitoring performance.
- Supporting portfolio companies with strategic guidance, financing strategy, and growth planning.
- Sourcing, evaluating, and diligencing new investment opportunities.
- Conducting financial, market, competitive, and technical analysis.
- Leading investment committee preparation and capital deployment recommendations.
- Coordinating follow-on investment decisions.
- Preparing LP reports, investor updates, and fund performance materials.
- Maintaining strong relationships with LPs, founders, co-investors, and strategic partners.
- Supporting current and future LP fundraising efforts.
- Ensuring fund governance, compliance, and reporting processes are executed effectively.
Required Qualifications
- Mandatory prior experience managing one or more venture capital funds.
- Demonstrated experience raising LP capital or materially supporting institutional fundraises.
- Direct experience managing a portfolio of venture-backed companies.
- Experience with fund operations, LP reporting, governance, compliance, and limited partnership structures.
- Strong investment judgment, financial modeling, and market analysis skills.
- Proven ability to source deals and lead structured due diligence.
- Experience making or recommending capital deployment and follow-on financing decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for LP updates, investment memos, and fund reporting.
- Ability to build trusted relationships with founders, LPs, investors, and strategic partners.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to operate independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience managing two or more funds with demonstrated returns.
- Experience investing in or supporting deep technology, defense technology, dual-use technology, national security, aerospace, AI, autonomy, cyber, energy, or advanced manufacturing companies.
- Existing network across national security, defense, government, or dual-use technology ecosystems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- MBA, CFA, or similar advanced credential is a plus.
Location
Preferred in the Northern Virginia, Washington D.C. Region with Remote work options, full-time.
