Backtrace is a venture capital fund focused on technology infrastructure. We invest specifically in artificial intelligence, software infrastructure, cybersecurity, development tools, and the underlying hardware layers. Our team combines extensive operational experience in software development with many years of experience as institutional investors.

Do you have a deep understanding of fundamental AI concepts and operational experience in their implementation, for example, in implementing agent workflows or integrating AI tools? In this role, you will work closely with us. You will support us in classifying new technological developments and research, further developing existing hypotheses, and deploying AI technologies for backtrace and our portfolio companies.

Theses Development & Research: You follow the latest developments in AI, agents and related infrastructure and support us in refining existing investment and market theses and developing new ones.

• Internal AI use: You will support us in the further development of internal AI processes and introduce new technologies. In close consultation with us, you will independently manage the process from idea to implementation.
• Portfolio Support: You will support our portfolio companies in the use of AI and agents, for example with workflows, integrations and specific technical questions, and will work closely with us in doing so.
• Market and competitive analysis: You monitor new providers, tools, infrastructure, and trends and innovations in the field of AI. You help us assess which architectural and market shifts are relevant and where new categories are emerging. Special projects: You take on important cross-functional topics, support us in board meetings and quarterly reports, independently identify bottlenecks, and proactively address them.

You have a strong technical background, such as a completed degree or PhD in computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, or a related field. More important than formal qualifications is your practical experience with AI. Ideally, you have developed and implemented AI or agent workflows in a startup, research setting, or technical product team.
