I came up with an easy way to test the strength of your VC/startup network.
You know, the network that might be able to help get you in front of a firm:
Before they ever post a job.
The network that will keep you out of that 700+ resume pile that some firms have to dig through when they DO post a job.
There’s a test for this.
I decided to call it the Rule of 10.
It’s this:
If the answer is yes … your network is pretty good.
Good enough to think that you might be ready to start the 6-12+ month (or more) trek towards VC.
If the answer is no — don’t worry.
You can build up to this.
But I wouldn’t expect much traction in your VC job search until you do.
