VC Manager

GCO Ventures Barcelona, Spain

GCO Ventures

We are GCO Ventures , the innovation vehicle of Grupo Catalana Occidente.

We create and promote projects with high growth potential, combining the building of new businesses with investment and support for startups.

Through a venture building methodology, we work from the identification of opportunities to the validation and launch of initiatives, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and with an approach based on experimentation, execution and continuous learning.

We are looking for someone to join as a Portfolio Manager and contribute to the growth of our portfolio companies, combining strategy, finance and hands-on execution to drive their development and value creation.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the performance of the investee companies from scaling phases to exit/closure phases, supervising the reporting and ensuring the quality and consistency of the information.
  • Define and keep the portfolio playbook updated for each phase of the startups, including key metrics, goals, expected financial behavior and reference benchmarks (costs, revenues, structure, etc.).
  • Analyze markets, trends and opportunities with the aim of identifying growth levers and providing strategic value to the investee companies.
  • Review and optimize business and financial plans, constructively challenging and supporting CEOs in defining milestones and strategy.
  • Act as a sparring partner to CEOs, combining critical vision with direct support in execution to maximize results.
  • Detect areas for improvement and identify levers for growth, expansion or strategic pivots, collaborating hands-on in their prioritization and execution together with the teams.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance or similar training; additional training in digital business or MBA is valued.
  • Experience in portfolio management and monitoring, with a focus on performance and value creation, ideally in Venture Building, Corporate Venture, or Innovation environments.
  • Experience in strategy and business development, including defining operational plans and end-to-end business plans.
  • Solid financial foundation: ability to build and analyze financial models, projections, unit economics and key metrics.
  • Experience in PMO / management of complex projects, leading multiple initiatives in parallel with rigor and structure.
  • High analytical and synthesis skills, geared towards strategic decision making.
  • Experience working with management teams (C-level), with the ability to influence and challenge with sound judgment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams in Spanish and English.

The following are especially valued:

  • Exposure to startup environments in different phases (0 to 1, scaleup, exit)
  • Experience in defining go-to-market strategies, expansion, or strategic pivots.
  • Knowledge of capital raising and investor relations.
  • Familiarity with transaction-related environments (M&A, investment, corporate finance or similar).

Benefits

  • Economic, social, training and professional growth benefits.
  • Flexible hours with centrally located offices in Barcelona.
  • Hybrid format, with 2 days of teleworking per week.
